Uploading

How to get photos and videos into lumioo, what happens afterwards and which limits apply.

Two ways to upload

Click "Upload" and choose files. Or simply drag the files anywhere onto the page. Drag and drop works on every page of lumioo, not only in the library.

An overview at the bottom right shows the progress. You can keep working in the meantime.

Straight into an album or chapter

If you drag files onto an album page or onto a chapter of a trip, they land right there. They are still in your library, like any other photo.

File types

Images: JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and HEIF. Videos: MP4, MOV and WebM. We reject other files with a message.

What happens after the upload

After the upload we keep working in the background: thumbnails, compressed versions of videos, faces and automatic tags, if you have switched both on. Photos are visible immediately. Videos take a few minutes depending on their length and show "still processing" until then. The home page keeps count of what is still running.

Date and location

We read the date taken and the location from the information the camera saved in the file. If the location is missing, it stays empty. You can set it later, one photo at a time or for many photos at once.

If the date taken is missing, we guess it from the file date or the time of the upload. Such photos carry a small calendar symbol on the tile and on the photo page. Clicking it opens "Set date". Photos with no clue at all are collected in the "Without date" section at the end of the library, and the home page reminds you of them.

Limits

How large a file may be and how long a video may be depends on your plan. You can find the numbers under Plans. If your storage is full, the upload fails with a message. Emptying the Trash often helps, because deleted photos count until then as well.

Duplicate files

If you upload the same file twice, we recognise it by its content, not by its name. Both copies are kept, but they get a note. Under Duplicates in the account menu you see all of them and decide which copy stays.

When an upload fails

The most common reasons: the connection was interrupted, the file is too large or has a type we do not accept, or your storage is full. The message in the upload overview names the reason. Fix it and try again. The other files are not affected.
